El ColoradoSki Where the Locals Ski El Colorado Ski resort is the closest resort to the Chilean capital city of Santiago making it the place where the locals play. Resembling a snow capped volcano, it is possible to ride on any side of the mountain, which increases the chances of good snow being somewhere. From the peak the view looks down to the other two big resorts in the area, La Parva and Valle Nevado, and can be easily accessed. The fact that these three resorts are accessed through one another makes this the largest ski area in South America. El Colorado is a popular resort with beginners and intermidiates but there is still plenty of terrain to challenge even the best skiiers and boarders. The eastern side of the mountain is an expert skiiers playground, receiving heavy dumps and featuring steep chutes to get anyone's blood flowing. The ski area boasts nearly 2500 acres with 70 runs and 18 lifts there is plenty of elbow room for visitors and locals alike. Travelers can stay at either Villa Farellones, Villa Colorado or Santiago.
